It isn’t always easy to exercise your dog.  It involves a time commitment that you may have trouble dealing with.  There are lots of ways, however, that you can give your dog the exercise he needs that doesn’t require a lot of time.

If you consider that all movement is exercise, you just have to get your dog up and moving around to help him to get an appropriate amount of exercise each day.  The trick is to accomplish this when you are working or while you yourself are busy running around.  Here are a few tips to exercise your dog that you may consider helpful:

1.  Install a doggie door that leads to your fenced backyard so that while you are at work your dog can exercise as he wishes.

2.  After all, you want to interact with your pet as well.

3.  Your dog will have company and companionship while you are away, which will also help him be a happier pet.

4.  Did you know there are treadmills especially for dogs?  Why not purchase one and have your dog do his run right beside you on your treadmill?  These doggie treadmills are designed for a dog’s maximum safety so it is important to get one that is especially designed for dogs.

The above are just a few ideas that you can use to help you get your dog exercise.  There are so many other ways that you can include exercise as part of your dog’s life.  Getting your dog the proper amount of exercise he needs is important to his overall health and mental well-being.  Giving your dog exercise may even help extend his life.

who cares about the stigma, they are good exercise and you take care of your dog :) .

Your dog sounds like she already gets decent exercise. My aussie is the same way about going running, and with her relentless work ethic it's so hard to tell if she's done running or wants more. Usually I gauge it by if she tries to pull ahead of me on lead afterwards, but after 5 miles I don't want to overwork her.

You could possibly go running with her on a daily basis as opposed to a long walk. I have an attachment for my bike that I use for her to run, there's no way I could jog with her because she prefers to run very fast, and the bike makes it easier to go farther. She gets really excited over this too, but once done she's usually ready to take it easy.

  7. Sorry to hear of your problems. The following website has quite a bit of good information: http://www.mzjf.com/links.htm

And this site from the Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine is reliable: http://www.cvm.missouri.edu/neurology/dm/index.html

Your good care is going to make more difference than a change in diet. Best of luck.

You should have the people that come over, ignore her until she has calmed down. Any type of interaction from you or them ( even just pulling her off them) is attention, and it is what she is looking for. I have 2 border collies, and I know how much energy they can have. There are a few tactics you can use such as putting your knee up so it "bops" her off, or keeping a leash on her while she is in the house, and stepping on the leash when she jumps up. This will snap her back down, and if you repeat this step, she will self correct her own behavior. It does not always work. You may want to consider a trainer, or at least talk to one or your vet. The other thing you can do is just simply put her away when people come over, and when you do let her out, explain to people that they should not interact with her until she is calmed down. If she is continually jumping, just turning away from her and ignoring her can be the best training tool. You want to nip this right away, so it does not become a severe problem. There is a great dog trainer with a few great books out that can help you. Her name is Dr. Patricia McConnell. good luck!

  10. Okay, so besides playing with them in the back yard, take them for a couple of walks every day. At 3 months old, these puppies need quite a bit of exercise. They're going to be big dogs, likely high energy, so they'll need lots of exercise. You can also start doing a little obedience with them, they don't have to go to classes, work with them at home – puppies also need to keep their minds busy to prevent them becoming bored and getting destructive.

Siberians need lots of exercise. They are high energy and can go for hours running and playing. You need to get some outdoor toys to play with him. Also look online for a training cart ( a light Weight one) so you can use it for training for pulling. he will have fun you will have fun and it will tucker him out. Good luck with you bundle of energy :-)

Actually…you cant do any damage with a q-tip. Their ear cannals are shapped like an “L”, they’re not like a human ear cannal. That is wat my vet taught me when my puppy had an ear infection and I had to clean the ears regularly. So no worries! :)

walk her and when she gets too tired carry her if your in a store get a small dog carrier for her or dog tote

  15. Sonny M says:

You should carry her in there yourself. She trusts you. She might panic a little at first…when she does, just comfort her. Try to do it about 3-4 times a week. She'll get used to it eventually.

ya.. this one made me smile as well. She is a cutie.. I always love a cute girl that showers with their dogs as I do.. But.. I’m a dude.. lol

  17. Don't be a baby…….I just got back from hiking with my dog through deep snow up to my arthritic knees with sleet and wind on my arthritic back. Now put on your boots and get out in that slush and mud with your dog. : )

  18. TerriersRock says:

I think you should look into hiring a dog walker. You are pregnant so you shouldn't be stressing your body out. Unfortunately, your dogs still need to go out to do their business but that is nothing that a dog walker can't fix. You could even hire a neighbor kid (teenager) if they're looking to earn a little bit of extra money. As for the obedience class, definitely ask to postpone it, it's not safe for the dogs. The heat is too extreme, they could very easily overheat. Keep them well hydrated and just buy them a few extra toys to have around the house so they don't get bored.
