Things To Know Before Traveling With Your Pet

Traveling with your pet can be a very fun experience. What better way for you and your loyal companion to explore new surroundings and adventures? Now before anyone takes a trip they should be well prepared. Since pets can not do preparations for themselves, you will have to do it for your pet. Here is some general advice and tips you should know before you take your pet along on a trip.

Check Your Pet’s Condition.

You should be aware of your pet’s physical condition before traveling. You should go to your veterinarian to check on your pet. Make sure your pet has all the necessary vaccinations and health certificates. Pets that are sick, pregnant, too young or old shouldn’t be taken on a trip, and you should instead consider a pet sitter when you leave.

Driving in a Car

When you have your pet in a car, you should have it in a carrier or a pet seatbelt. Don’t allow your pet to stick its head out of the window. Besides the possibility of being hit by something, your pet can become carsick. If the weather is hot, you should have the air conditioning on.

When you drive, you should take several breaks to let your pet go to the bathroom. Never let your pet stay unattended for long periods of time in the car alone, even in a shaded area (the shade will move over time). The car might over-heat and dehydrate your pet.

You should not let your pet loose when traveling. The pet might run into traffic, get lost, etc.

Things to Bring for Your Pet

* Pet Food – You should feed your pet the brand you usually feed it, and avoid suddenly changing the diet. So if you are unsure where you are going will have the brand, bring some food.

* Bring Water – Bring about two – three gallons of water

* Two leashes and a extra collar

* Photograph of pet – There has been times when pets became lost when traveling with their owners. You should also bring a description of your pet. These will help greatly if unfortunately your pet becomes lost.

* Pet toys

* First aid kits

* Pet comb/brush

The general advice in this article will be helpful to anyone who wants to travel with his or her pet.

Actually…you cant do any damage with a q-tip. Their ear cannals are shapped like an “L”, they’re not like a human ear cannal. That is wat my vet taught me when my puppy had an ear infection and I had to clean the ears regularly. So no worries! :)

I travel with my dog but so far (ive only had her a year this august) it has just been to my parents house which is like 3 hours away from me. I would never bring her on a plane because im afraid of her going in a luggage place so that would never happen but then again its been like 10 years since ive been on a plane so i don't think that'll happen anytime soon..lol I am not sure if i would bring her with me on vaca somewhere it is really tuff for us so I probably would just not go. I have problems finding a kennel or boarding place that first will accept her(she is an apbt) and it seems by me a lot of places wont even take her even if they meet her. The ones that will take her, i do not find acceptable. Then also there is that whole bsl thing so i would have to make sure wherever i go that the route taken is along bsl free areas otherwise from my understanding some places can see you take her out for a walk to potty and take her away if they have certain bsl laws. Plus i have never slept without my dog since i got her so i dont know if i would even enjoy having her away. i am a worrier and think that her not being with me would cause more problems than anything.

I have one of these. It actually has stuff crossed off already.

What's still on there, so far (I add to it):

    1) Start a bar fight.
    2) Participate in a bar fight.
    3) Serenade someone, anyone, outside their window at ~3am. Preferably with a ukelele or an acoustic guitar.
    4) Visit the Winchester mansion.
    5) Go hang gliding.
    6) Tabledance.

Some things on the list already accomplished:
    Go to the Grand Canyon
    Ride in a helicopter
    See the Breakers
    Pet a stingray
    Go shark fishing
    Ride a motorcycle
    Walk up a waterfall
    Camp in the Rockies
Celebrate Hallowe'en while camping (many times over!)

    1. I love to actually see places that I have only read about. Especially places that most "tourists" don't go to.

    2. See places as they are, not as they may be described by tour operators. Meet people as real people, not as someone who just wants to make money off any "ugly American" who happens along. (I always learn a little of the local language before going, which is truly hard for an adult, but it helps with bonding. I speak only about four words of Chinese, but I was once told in China that "my Chinese is excellent", just because I tried.)

    3. My major pet peeve is that most people who travel don't know history, geography, or foreign languages, and come with a lot of prejudices built in. That's why my husband and I travel alone where it is safe and possible to do so, and with adventure tours elsewhere. People who take adventure tours are usually quite a bit more interested in history, geography, foreign cultures, languages, and such.

    4. What I value the most is to be kind, generous, patient, and to not harm others. The older I get, the more I believe that this is the best way to make your old age peaceful and calm.

    5. No. We are very careful and check everything out.

    6. Lots, but here is a partial list: Foreign languages and linguistics; animals; high altitude hiking and camping; sudoku; reading fiction and-non-fiction; finding out things I happen to want to know by searching the internet; being able to help others, especially family members who won't admit to needing help.

7 Being able to put the trip together with things I've read and studied. For example, during our recent trip to Europe, I visited the places related to Hemma of Gurk, an Austrian saint who lived around 1,000 AD, including her grave. For my husband, an expert on W.W. I history, we visited a museum in Austria and one in Slovenia that had wonderful historical pictures.

I've not flown in America with my cats, but have taken them with me to several different European countries.

When the cats travelled in the hold, I was made to pay for their ticket as soon as I booked the flight. When they travelled in the cabin, they were weighed in their carriers at the check in desk and I was charged excess baggage fees for them.

Due to increased security and the current economic situation, airlines are adopting much stricter policies about baggage. If I were you, I would set aside some money to pay for her flight, otherwise you'll feel terrible if you check in for your flight and they refuse to accept your cat on board.

I got a dog to the us. For complete info call the united office and ask them what is the procedure. They will let you know. Then try their 24 hr helpline. Call them at least thrice to make sure you have the complete information. If you are travel ling business or first class you will be able to keep your cat with you in a cage. Economy I'm not so sure. You will also need vaccination certificates a couple of photographs and travel papers from the Quarantine officer from the ministry of agriculture or animal husbandry. I know that this sounds like a lot to do but it will only take you about 4 hours in total. Ask your vet and they will point you in the right direction. Don't leave her behind though she will be so unhappy without you. all the best.

  10. Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5.
I have one and it takes excellent pictures.
It has 10x wide angle optical zoom, 9.1MP, and records HD videos.
It has great reviews on Amazon and I would highly recommend it.

  11. It depends on the dog. We had one that we could board and one that we couldn't. He just 'shut down.' We had to cut our vacation short that year because the dog would not eat, drink, or anything. The guy at the kennel was great and phoned us (before cellphones, this was quite a feat, but he did it) and we came home early.

Our next dog was no problem in the kennel. He was always extra-glad when we got him back, but he didn't mind being boarded for awhile.

Give your fur-baby a trial run of a night in a boarding kennel. See how it goes. If he can handle it, use the kennel your brother recommends. Some dogs have no trouble at all with places like that. Yours may well be one of them, but you'll never know if you don't try it out.

Well I think hand sewing is fine, but it would take so long. Some things might have to be hand sewn, but if you come over you could use my mom's and she could show you.

First you need the tough material. Holes can be patched as long as you have thread and you have the ability to patch it as soon as it gets a hole.

Then you need to sew, sew, sew! Or use sewing machine, use sewing machine, use sewing machine! I will explain how to do this.

I think the length needs to be about 16 or 17 inches long, unfortunately so big. It would need to be about 8 inches wide and 10 to 16 inches tall.

You need fabric squares, two of 16" by 10" and 10" by 8". Then one of 16" by 8".

Arrange them flat so when shaped into a box they have the dimensions I mentioned a while ago. Fold the edges together and stitch the edges together that are folded by each other. Lift the fabric pieces to they form a box. Then fold the edges together that aren't sewed but next to each other. Stitch them together.

Now for the handle. Get more material. Cut it into two strips. Sew them to the larger faces of the bag. Sew both ends and make it so the handles form an arch.

In the bottom cut cardboard to the size of the bottom and place it in. If I were you, I might add sticks in the bottom edges to prevent the bottom bending while you are walking.

Now for pockets. Get pieces of fabric that are about the size you want them to be. Cut them in a rectangle. Stitch the fabric close to the edge of the fabric to the handbag except for the top edge.

Viola! You have your rat handbag!
